I think there’s something wrong with me. With the help of Mike Hearn, I now have After Dark running in Linux, through xscreensaver. I couldn’t be happier.

Tell us more.. How!
Right now, it’s very hacky, and requires using Win98/ME dlls in wine, instead of the wine versions. Also, you need a very hacky script to launch After Dark screen savers. On top of that, you can’t get a preview in xscreensaver. Instead, it goes full screen. I’m working on solutions to this, and when I get it working in a satisfactory way, I’ll post a mini-HOWTO.
You know, there is a native xscreensaver port of Flying Toasters…
Yeah, there is, but it’s nowhere near as good as the one in After Dark. The graphics aren’t as good, no catchy tune (which I usually disable, but it’s fun regardless), and they don’t dance around. If you haven’t see After Dark 4.0’s Flying Toasters, you haven’t seen flying toasters how they’re meant to be
Could you please tell me how you did it? To have After Dark running on linux – and through xscreensaver – is something that I would love to have so much, it’s something that I have wanted to do for a couple of years now!
I don’t have what’s needed anymore. That install is long gone. It’d be nice to see if anyone can get it working any better nowadays.
